Welcome
Project-Snoopy is a site that is all about me,
Andy Govan, and the restoration of my mini named Snoopy. I bought
Snoopy on the 7th February 2004, after searching long and hard
through the internet, newspapers, mini publications, and friends. I
wanted a very cheap mini that would be suitable for restoration, but
wasn't falling to pieces. I eventually found an advert on the
internet for a mini in Stoke-on-Trent, it was a 1976 Morris Mini
1000 with 49,000 miles on the clock, it was for sale at £200 spares
or repair, this was because it had failed its MOT and the owner was
going to university and wasn't able to get it repaired. I looked
around the car and their was some obvious problems with corrosion,
including a hole in the bonnet ! I spoke to the owner and found out
that it had failed on the rear sub frame, and a corroded floor
panel, included in the sale was a second hand bonnet, 2 new bumpers,
and a new rear valance, we agreed on a price, and £170 later I owned
a mini !

Snoopy managed to get back to
Derby, but not without causing some mischief, the 40 mile journey
required us to stop twice and fetch petrol, due to the badly setup
engine (or a leak that I have yet to find !) My dad who drove Snoopy
back was not amused, although he did say the engine was very smooth,
and drove nicely (when it ran !) |
|
From the back everything looks
pretty good, even the bumper looks rust free, but I have a new one
anyway now. The filler cap is lockable, but I expect to change it
for a chrome version once major work is done ! |

Here we can see into the engine
bay, and I'm sure that everyone agrees that this looks a bit of a
mess. Snoopy was bought from a farm and the vast majority of the
brown on the engine is mud, the engine starts first time, and is a
bit smoky, but considering its age, I can forgive this. The engine
will be completely removed and totally rebuilt, I will probably stay
with this engine, although the thoughts of a 1275 or even 1380 are
very tempting ! |

Here is a picture of the interior
from the drivers side, it has light grey carpets, and a brown
leather trim. The instrument panel is mounted in the centre of the
dashboard, and has three circular dials. There is a ventilation fan
at each side of the dashboard. The steering wheel is a replacement,
and the previous owner is going to try and find the original one for
me. I don't know if the leather is original, it is in very good
condition, with only small damage on the drivers seat. If anyone
knows if this is standard I would love to hear from you. |

Here is a picture of the back, you
can see how clean and undamaged the leather is, the door card at the
back has come off, revealing the original colour of the car. Also
the heated screen connection and the swing open rear windows can be
seen. |
